In the dynamic world of specialty coffee, Lucas has been a passionate advocate and contributor to the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) over the past two years. His journey began with volunteering at events such as the Barista Championship and the Latte Art Competitions at CATEX in February 2021. Not only did he lend his expertise to these competitions, but he also shared insights during the popular “Ten Talk” at the same event, shedding light on logistics and coffee prices trends.
Having seen firsthand the important role played by an active SCA Irish Chapter in organising such crucial competitions, Lucas welcomed a more official role within the organisation. As the newly appointed National Coordinator, he outlined his key objectives for the next two years: “My aim is to bring SCA events to every corner of Ireland, ensuring a wider reach for the active communities across the country. By hosting numerous competitions, I intend to showcase and elevate the exceptional talent within Ireland on the international stage.”

Lucas acknowledges the voluntary nature of his role, which runs parallel to his full-time position as CEO of Viva Coffee Ltd. Recognising the importance of a robust team of volunteers to support the SCA Irish Chapter’s success over the next two years, he emphasizes the collaborative effort required to achieve their ambitious goals.
Lucas’s commitment to the SCA Irish Chapter is not merely administrative; it reflects his dedication to fostering excellence within Ireland’s specialty coffee community. With his leadership and the collective passion of volunteers, the SCA Irish Chapter looks set to contribute significantly to the global stage of specialty coffee.
